Festival make-up...

If you’re going to a festival this year, you’ll want to look effortlessly good.  You may feel a little out of place with a full face of make-up but you may also feel apprehensive about going completely bare.

There is criteria that festival make-up has to fit:  It must look natural to fit in with the relaxed festival vibe, it must be quick and easy to apply as you will more than likely be using the tiniest mirror in a cramped dark tent when getting ready, and it must look good no matter what!

With this is mind and many hours scouting around many make-up brands, I have come up with my list of essential festival make-up products which will suit all ages, all styles and all skill levels. You’ll be the coolest festival chick out …

Tinted moisturiser
The perfect substitute for heavy foundation and ‘cakey flakey’ powder, a good tinted moisturizer will even out your skin tone and make you glow in a light fresh way.  No-one will know you are wearing it!  It’s easy to apply (simply apply as you would your normal moisturizer which you can use it in place of – one less thing to pack!) and it’s sheer so the colour will still look great even if you get a sun tan.  If you have normal, combination or problem skin, opt for Dermalogica’s Oil Free Sheer Tint £22 - £34. For dry or mature skins, choose Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation Moisturiser £16.99.

Bronzer (and powder brush)
My desert island product, a natural bronzer will make all the difference to your look, giving you a sunkissed glow, right from the beginning of the festival.  Simply dust the powder all over your face and décolleté with a large powder brush (opt for a travel size brush for easy packing) on top of your tinted moisturizer or on bare skin. And, carry it in your bag too for touch ups during the day. My favourite and incredibly affordable bronzing powder is Rimmel’s Sun Shimmer Bronzing Powder at £5.59. Opt for Light Matte if you have pale skin and Medium Matte if you are darker.

Mascara
Mascara is a must for a festival to define your eyes, making them look bigger, brighter and more awake. Choose black mascara unless you are ultra fair, in which case use dark brown, and make sure it is waterproof to avoid any smudges! In my view, Maybelline make the best affordable mascaras. With a range of different formulas and wands, you can take your pick depending what you want your lashes to look like!

Eyebrow pencil
As I’m always saying in my Weekend features, a well defined eyebrow will make all the difference to your look. Well shaped and defined eyebrows add structure and definition to the face, opening up, lifting and brightening the eyes and making you look years younger! Eyebrows are a great way to achieve ‘natural beauty’ as, if done right, no-one will know you’ve done anything to them!  Simply, follow the shape of your natural brow using an eyebrow pencil.  Ensure the part near your nose is thicker, tapering out towards your ear.  Make sure colour is distributed evenly and that the edges are smooth.  I recommend Rimmel’s Eyebrow Pencils which retail at £3.99, come in three different shades and include a small brush on the end to comb through your brows afterwards to ensure they look even and natural.

Tinted lip balm
It’s all about Clinique’s Chubby sticks (£16) when it comes to festival lips this year! These moisturising lip balms come in funky easy to apply chunky pencils which are just PERFECT for summer festivals! They come in a range of sheer gorgeous shades, ideal for summer, with a soft glossy finish. Who could ask for more?  Simply, ask your Clinique consultant to match you to your perfect shade and away you go!
