Natural skincare beauty on a budget-Published in Echo Weekend

There are so many all-natural beauty buys that are fabulous for the skin and can be bought on a budget. Below are just a few of them, which you can buy from supermarkets, health food stores and online at www.aromantic.co.uk

 1. Sweet almond oil is fabulous for removing make-up and cleansing the skin. It’s cheap, lasts forever and is a gentle and excellent cleanser for both eye make-up and the face. Simply apply a small amount to a cotton wool pad and use small circular motions to remove dirt and make-up. Your skin will look soft and radiant immediately. You can also put a small amount in in a nice hot bath, soaking in it for as long as you like, and emerging with beautiful body skin for days. Always opt for cold pressed and unrefined as it’s more natural.

 2. Muslin cloths. Forget about expensive exfoliators. Use a damp muslin cloth and small circular motions to gently remove dead skin cells and excess dirt from your face once/weekly. Apply a small amount of sweet almond oil first to soften dead skin cells for 5-10 minutes. That way, the muslin cloth will be extra effective, giving you an ultra gentle but thorough exfoliation! Your skin will look fresh, smooth and polished.

3. Coconut oil is a fabulous hair conditioner! It penetrates the hair cuticle and moisturises hair from the inside out. Simply apply onto dry hair and leave for a minimum of half an hour. Your hair will be gleaming when you’re done! Coconut oil also has excellent health benefits and is great for cooking and including in smoothies. (I recommend: www.coconoil.co.uk)

4. Green tea. Cut the caffeine and try nutrient rich herbal teas or hot water and lemon/mint leaves instead. Green tea is my favourite and although it can taste strange initially, once you’re used to it, it’s addictive! You only need a tiny amount of loose leaves and aside from being full of antioxidants which is great for anti-ageing the skin, it will also speeds up your metabolism helping you stay slim.

5. White Clay. If you suffer from breakouts or you fancy a deep cleanse, ditch expensive and chemical packed masks and peels and opt for white kaolin clay instead. It’s cheap, gentle and full of skin-benefitting minerals. It will gently draw impurities from the skin without removing natural oils while simultaneously exfoliating, cleansing, and stimulating circulation. White clay is suitable for all skin types, whether it be oily, blemish prone, normal, sensitive, dry, or mature skin. Simply mix a small amount with a few drops of water and apply to the face. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and remove with water. A little goes a very long way! For a beautifully fragrant mask, add a couple if drops of Mandarin essential oil.

6. Sea salts. A small handful of sea salts in your bath will detoxify your body and skin and is great for a number of skin issues including acne, psoriasis and eczema. Sea salts also smooth and soften skin, providing essential minerals to maintain your body's natural ph balance - restoring moisture and relieving tensions and stresses.

7. Water. Drinking plenty of water each day will have a huge impact on what your skin feels and looks and like, promoting a clear and even complexion that looks healthy and nourished. Not only does water flush toxins from the body, minimizing skin issues such as acne but it also reduces dry areas and premature ageing by supporting the production of elastin.

 8. Plant oils. Blend 20-40% of Macadamia Nut Oil with 60-80% of Rosehip Seed Oil for a fabulous anti-ageing radiance boosting facial oil to use at night. Macadamia Nut Oil is renowned for its powerful anti-ageing properties while rosehip seed oil is incredibly rejuvenating –a great combination! Both oils will penetrate deeply into the skin and you will reap incredible benefits immediately. If you have an oily/combination complexion, opt for more Rosehip Seed Oil and less Macadamia Nut Oil and vice versa if you are dry/mature. It’s not greasy and nor will it block pores!

 9. Good fats. Not all fats are bad for us to eat, those which contain essential fatty acids (Omega 6 and 3) are great - and are also the building blocks of skin cells. As water is stored in cell membranes, the stronger these membranes are, the more they will be able to retain moisture and the healthier and more radiant your complexion will be. So, be sure to include plenty of the following foods in your diet for a supple, smooth complexion: Seeds, nuts, oily fish flaxseed (linseed), hemp oil, soya oil, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, leafy vegetables, walnuts.
